2010 Earthquake Retrospective Report

The 2010 Earthquake Retrospective Report reviews worldwide earthquakes of 2010 and how these events inform catastrophe models by providing more data - and a foundation for understanding catastrophic earthquake risk. The year-in-review includes pictures of earthquakes and data from Port-au-Prince, Haiti; Maule, Chile; Baja California, Mexico; and Christchurch, New Zealand.

Kate Stillwell, Product Manager, Earthquake Products at EQECAT, discusses the significance of 2010's catastrophic earthquake events, the need for financial preparation, infrastructure, and an increased awareness of potential devastation from earthquakes.

As we approach the one year anniversaries of the Haiti and Chile disasters, this report offers a perspective on how these events will impact catastrophe modeling, how the US and Japan might have fared with similar earthquakes, and critical steps needed for earthquake loss reduction.
