RQE™ (Risk Quantification & Engineering), EQECAT's new catastrophe risk modeling platform, was unveiled in 2012. The Minneapolis release event was held on June 19, 2012.

Attendees got a chance to connect personally with EQECAT staff to learn about RQE version 13 and some of the upcoming improvements, which included:

  • Updated catastrophe models
  • Improved import workflow
  • Improved analytics
  • New financial model and reports

The attendees gained a deeper understanding of all components of the EQECAT catastrophe risk modeling process to support better business decisions related to risk assessment, risk pricing, and portfolio management of catastrophe risk.

The event was held at the Hilton in Minneapolis.

Areas of improvements include improved catastrophe models, an updated financial model and significantly re-designed workflow and performance components.

9:30 am - 10:30 am Uncertainty and 3G Correlation™: An In-Depth Discussion on EQECAT's Methodology

In this session, we discuss the importance of capturing the sources of uncertainty in modeling and EQECAT's approach, including 3G Correlation, available in EQECAT's new cat modeling platform being released in 2012.

EQECAT's new platform includes a new financial model that will allow users to analyze the latest financial terms and conditions for products offered by the re/insurance industry. This session informs users of the changes that were made to the calculation of ground up, gross loss and net or reinsurance losses.

11:30 am - 12:00 pm Import Workflow

The import process is more than simply transferring the contents of a spreadsheet to the database. Users must verify that the import was successful and validate the data to be analyzed is as expected. The session describes EQECAT's new import process - the various types of source data, the error handling, and the exposure reports that give users confidence for the subsequent analysis.

EQECAT's change management process allows client organizations to prepare their business processes, people and technology for upcoming releases and resulting changes. EQECAT has adopted industry best practices and incorporated client feedback to develop a process that enables clients to implement our new platform and updated country/peril models with the least possible interruptions and minimize complications. This session describes the phases of EQECAT's change management process implemented to ensure clients are fully informed and prepared for changes resulting from upcoming releases.

Model Updates for 2012

As part of RQE, EQECAT is updating its models for 77 country/perils, for global consistency of modeling methodology. This session summarizes the framework by which the hazard and vulnerability models have been reviewed and updated, as well as some of the specific methodological and other modeling enhancements being made.

2:30 pm - 3:00 pm Database Schema

RQE includes new features and functionality that require a redesign of the database schema from the tables to their entity relationships. Some of these features include a four-tier exposure data structure, a new financial model and new reports. This session prepares users for the upcoming changes and allow you to connect with EQECAT staff to answer your questions related to the new database design.

This session explores the powerful new reporting capabilities available in RQE. Among the reporting features are a new YLT (Year Loss Table) and Aggregator. In RQE, 3G Correlation allows user to aggregate multiple portfolios' output without the need to reanalyze.
