Eurowind 2008 This session reviewed EQECAT’s 2008 release of its industry-standard Eurowind model. The presentation focused on the new countries being added to the current platform, the incorporation of Global Circulation Model findings into the Hazard, better alignment of vulnerability functions with European construction practices, incorporation of a sea surge component. The presentation was led by the EQECAT Product Development team including key representatives from EQECAT's flood and wind center of excellence group based in Paris, France.

Gulf of Mexico Model Update 2008 The accurate quantification of offshore energy hurricane risk – whether at risk or portfolio level - demands the comprehensive modelling of drivers of damage and consideration of the complexity of exposed assets. New enhancements to the EQECAT Gulf of Mexico Offshore Energy Model will be presented, and using output from the updated model, the session will provide a detailed case study on loss vulnerability. This will demonstrate the variability of loss behaviour of similar asset types according to the hurricane-related hazards in the Gulf - wind, wave height and mudslides. The relationship between damage and asset type, age and air gap will also be discussed.

CAT Model Certification: Insights from the Florida Hurricane CAT Model Certification Process This session will encompass a review of EQECAT's USWind model development process, including a discussion on all key components in that process and their criticality to the end production of damage and loss reporting for catastrophe risk. The session will emphasize the process that EQECAT undertakes to validate the individual components of the model to meet the Florida Hurricane Commission certification requirements. The objective of the session is to answer the question: "What makes EQECAT confident that the model produces an accurate representation of the risk?"

US Hurricane Demand Surge and Near Term - Have We Changed our Perspective? A timely presentation by the Hurricane and Tropical Cyclone unit with EQECAT’s Technology Group that addressed two key items affecting damage and loss perspective on US Hurricane, (1) How has EQECAT incorporated "demand surge" in its latest Atlantic Basin Hurricane model and (2) How does EQECAT address "near term" frequency in the latest Atlantic Basin Hurricane model. This segment included a discussion of EQECAT's perspective on damage and loss following 2 years of minimal activity in the Atlantic Basin and where EQECAT might go from here.
