New Belgium Earthquake Model

The European-Mediterranean region is characterized by diffused pattern of seismicity, mostly resulting from the convergence of the African and Eurasian tectonic plates. Every year a few damaging earthquakes occur in this area. Nevertheless, Northern Europe would typically be classified as a relatively stable continental region where seismic hazard is low. This is in particular in comparison to the active boundary zones in the Mediterranean, where seismic activity is generally high.
