EQECAT Mexico Earthquake Model Update

This document summarizes changes to the EQECAT Mexico Quake model that are contained in the August 2004 release of WORLDCAT enterprise (version 3.6). The new Mexico Quake is a substantial update, encompassing improvements to hazard, vulnerability, and analysis methodology.

A new seismo-tectonic model of Mexico was created to better represent sources like the subduction zone along Mexico’s west coast that causes some of the country’s severest quakes. The model also includes an up-to-date treatment of “gaps” in the seismicity of the subduction zone; these gaps are considered to be areas of increased potential for large quakes.
