EQECAT Fire Following Methodology Summary
Background
Fire conflagrations following earthquakes, as evidenced by the 1923 Great Kanto Earthquake and the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake, can cause enormous property damage and loss of life. Insurance companies exposure to these events is typically much greater than shake damage, since total fire limits usually far exceed shake limits. Hence, there is a need to estimate the severity and frequency of these events.
